Seasonal First (4): Two Blue Damselflies

Damselfly at Sutton Hoo, Suffolk, UK
I find these very difficult to identify beyond the designation 'blue Damselfly'!
Damselfly at Melford Hall, Suffolk, UK

I am wondering if this one immediately above is a Southern Damselfly.

Hello Caroline, just looked at your damselfly pics & reached for my Field Guide to Dragonflies and Damselflies of the GB and Ireland for reference (which I heartily recommend). I wonder whether the first is a male Common Blue (the mushroom shaped black mark on the 2nd segment) & whether the 2nd photo is a male Azure Damselfly(U shaped mark on segment 2 of abdomen)? Mind you I'm no expert! Linda

Thank you very much, Linda, for your help here. I kept looking at the second to see if it looked more azure than blue, but didn't get as far as checking the markings against the Azure.
